1. The election was not certified, but the new Board members were sworn in anyway. When this action was questioned by Mr. Popkin, the BA said that the proceedings were unofficial. He asked if the swearing in was unofficial also. This question was ignored.
2. They took the oath to uphold the NJ Constitution, sat down and broke the oath by not adopting a resolution to accept the New Jersey School Boards Association and appointing a Delegate. The very proceedings were contrary to the oath. The meeting should have been postponed until after the election was certified. They should have been satisfied with just having their celebration party. Oh, and we sat downstairs waiting for a meeting that was advertised as beginning at 6:30, while they had their party.
3. Harley Ungar nominated Stephen Brown for president. It was 2nd with no opposition. No surprise there even though there had been rumors that it would be Enrique Diaz.
4. Stephen Brown took over the proceedings and Henry Pruitt was nominated and seconded as Vice President.
5. Many of the items that must be resolved annually were resolved, yet the mandate regarding the NJSBA was ignored again. 18A mandates that this must be done annually at the re-organization meetings. This defiance is indeed baffling.
In effect, business proceeded as usual. Where is the Law? We now have a lawyer as school board president. We expect more from him. We also expect more from the new BA who seems to be getting on the job training.
Well, no luck here...
