A school board member shall abide by the following Code of Ethics for School Board Members:
- I will uphold and enforce all laws, rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, and court orders pertaining to schools. Desired changes shall be brought about only through legal and ethical procedures.
- I will make decisions in terms of the educational welfare of children and will seek to develop and maintain public schools that meet the individual needs of all children regardless of their ability, race, creed, sex, or social standing.
- I will confine my board action to policy making, planning, and appraisal, and I will help to frame policies and plans only after the board has consulted those who will be affected by them.
- I will carry out my responsibility, not to administer the schools, but, together with my fellow board members, to see that they are well run.
- I will recognize that authority rests with the board of education and will make no personal promises nor take any private action that may compromise the board.
- I will refuse to surrender my independent judgment to special interest or partisan political groups or to use the schools for personal gain or for the gain of friends.
- I will hold confidential all matters pertaining to the schools which, if disclosed, would needlessly injure individuals or the schools. In all other matters, I will provide accurate information and, in concert with my fellow board members, interpret to the staff the aspirations of the community for its school.
- I will vote to appoint the best qualified personnel available after consideration of the recommendation of the chief administrative officer.
- I will support and protect school personnel in proper performance of their duties.
- I will refer all complaints to the chief administrative officer and will act on the complaints at public meetings only after failure of an administrative solution

If the Board does not abide by it's OATH...How do we expect the Students to follow a Code of Conduct....
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that the Board will begin to follow the oath once they see that the public has a clear understanding of what they are supposed to do. Frankly, I am confused by Englewood's Board of Education. They do not seem to have a clear idea of what their job as a board entails. Adults in Englewood are modeling bad habits all over. What kind of board changes the Principal of a failing high school every year? You give a new Superintendent 5 years to make positive changes, but Principals are kicked to the curb like garbage. The Principals work more closely with the children. That makes them more important than a superintendent in my eyes. Yet it seems that they are bullied and moved around at a moments notice. That cannot be good for the educational process. Part of the reason the students are so cavalier with the rules is because the adults are teaching them that it is okay.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right...What message are we sending..Not only do we change principals and supers.frequently, we do it in the middle of the year...What is our management schme? Do we follow 'site base' where the principal runs the building or 'Micro BULLY Management' where the Super. lets the Athletic Director do the dirty work?
ReplyDeleteThe Athletic Director. Is this in Englewood? I am not surprised. I have heard so many rumors about people being displaced. It is beyond belief. What criteria do they use when shuffling folks around? Are they giving us any reasons? Are they giving any thought to the children? Well, I guess I really know the answer to that.
ReplyDeleteThe items below have been infringed upon until the way is very muddy. Upcoming posts will clear the waters. We will continue to point out how this board does not uphold the oath or code of conduct that they must agree to in order to become members of the school board.
